Harvard Model UN India is an exciting initiative that brings together high school students from across India and the world. Known as the most prestigious conference for Model United Nations in South Asia, HMUN India is a hub for substantive negotiation, creative diplomacy, and an unparalleled educational experience for future regional leaders. We bring together young people with a passion to discuss, deliberate and solve some of the pressing issues affecting the world today. HMUN India 2017 was our most successful conference yet, bringing together more than 1400 high school students from schools across India and over 8 countries worldwide to debate in 15 committees spanning a variety of regions and topics. Beyond committee, HMUN India pushes delegates to look to create change within their own communities, sponsoring speaker's panels, social impact projects, and a pre-conference leadership development program called Resolve.
True to the spirit of the UN, founded in 1945, HMUN India strives to foster a constructive forum for open dialogue on complex global issues, including international peace and security, humanitarian response, and economic and social progress. HMUN India stresses the in-depth examination and resolution of pressing issues, emphasizing process over product. During the conference, students learn the importance of balancing national interests with the needs of the international community, while also learning about the powers and limitations of international negotiation. Delegates preserve their countries’ national policy while negotiating in the face of other, sometimes conflicting, international policies.
